Because it does.  OK that’s not a complete answer and it would be a boring blog to end it there.

The question is “why does my stuff matter?”  What we are speaking of is the stuff in your home, the stuff in your yard and the stuff buyer’s have to look at.  Step around and get a sense of the home while looking at it from a buyers point of view.  So in a nutshell, yes, your stuff matters!

When selling, buyers make a judgment on more than just the square footage, amenities, colors and area; they look at the “stuff”and how it makes them feel.  The entire house and bewlonging give off a vibe. Stage it well and you’ll do well. The best advice to keep in mind keep your home clean, and de-cluttered. Remove the bulk, if not all personnel pictures and political items from view.  Your home or property should have less stuff, but also stuff staged the right way.

About half the homes we list the sellers ask what to leave, what to rearrange if anything. It’s an important question and all relates back to the “stuff”.

While vacant homes are shown to sell for 3-7% less than fair market value, homes with too much stuff & clutter fall into the same boat.  Buyers today want to feel comfortable, at ease and feel themselves living there.  One question I ask often on showings is, “can you see yourself living here?”. It’s a great question and it’s one you should ask yourself as you prepare you home for sale.  Do buyers want to try and see through an over-cluttered home and feel like they are invading your space with 20-30 personnel pictures all over the wall, or, do they want to see a nicely presented property that feels good.
