About Lake Independence
I grew up on Lake Independence in the Dockside neighborhood which is on the east side of the lake and can tell you first hand its truly a great lake. Some of the things I personally loved about living on Independence were the Islands and Baker Park. The Islands on the lake allowed for great summer fun. My friends and I would boat out to them and explore. Having a larger park like the 2,700 acre Baker Park Reserve and beach located right on the lake was great. You could simply boat over, dock, then spend the day on the beach or playing in the park.
Life Living on Lake Independence
From a resident of Lake Independence…
I moved to Minnesota in 2001 and wanted two things; Orono Schools and to live on a lake. I was referred to and contacted Derrick Monroe to begin the process of searching and viewing homes for sale on water within the Orono school district. After viewing a couple other lakes including Long Lake I was drawn to Independence for several reasons. Real estate on Lake Independence not only offered me to live in the Orono school district where I wanted my kids to go but it offered a real sense of peacefulness. So many other lakes we looked at were located in communities that appeared to be to “up tight” for me and congested. I really wanted a home on water but I also did not want to be crammed in like sardines and Lake Independence offered many larger yards which was very attractive to me.
In the end I bought a nice home on the west side of the lake with a large yard and 77 feet of lakeshore. My kids attend Orono schools and we get to spend our weekends boating, fishing and at least once a month we camp out at Baker Park. I’m not much of an ice-fisherman but the little communities built and taken down each year on the lake sure are fun to watch as well. Buying a home on Lake Independence was certainly the right choice for me and my family.
