I just got done working today and I am sitting here at home in Rockford watching it lightly snow outside over the somewhat rural landscape and thinking how great the Rockford area truly is. I moved to Rockford in 1992 just two years out of high school and have been here ever since, in fact we like Rockford so much we bought our second home here as well and put down business roots.
I show homes and list homes all over the Twin Cities and yes, many cities in the metro area offer a lot of nice things but if you’re seeking that “smaller” town feel yet don’t want to be stuck out in the sticks because you actually enjoy things like shopping, movies and restaurants the Rockford just might be someplace you should look. With a population just under 4,000 and only 30 minutes west of Minneapolis, 20 minutes west of Plymouth and just East of the fast growing Buffalo MN Rockford is close to everything.
Rockford is also known as the city on the Crow River which runs North and South right through town while offering everything from gorgeous fall colors along the banks, fishing, canoeing and Park access like the one at Riverside Park also known as the Lions Park.
What I truly like about Rockford and why I have made it my home is the location and surroundings. Close enough to the Metro yet you get that rural feeling with farms, woods, river valleys, snowmobile trials, lakes and room to breathe. Rockford does offer shopping as well with hardware and home stores like Ace Hardware, Sears and Tractor Supply.
There are two main strip malls in Rockford MN with everything from coffee shops, Snap Fitness, Hair Salon’s, food, day care, shopping stores, liquor store and other local vendors. Rockford also has auto service by Hanson’s Auto, banking with a wonderful newer building at Bank West, Dental, Chiropractic, accounting services, thrift stores, bar/restaurants that offer live music, home furnishings and appliances at Vergins sales and so much more.
The area of Rockford has many parks, The Crow River, walking trails and Rebecca State Park on Lake Sarah that’s just a quarter mile or so from the city limit marker. If you’re looking for that new city to call home the residents of Rockford are truly great people, friendly, committed to local growth with the Rockford Lions Club, Rockford food shelf and many businesses in Rockford are owned by local Rockford people that take pride in their city.
Homes in Rockford range from around $125,000 to over $600,000 with the average Rockford home faking in the $200,000 range. Rockford has older established neighborhoods that offer those larger tree filled lots to newer neighborhood homes and new construction in neighborhoods like Shadow Ridge, Hurst Woods and Parkwood.
