So you’re an “empty nester” now. Is it time to consider a downsize and find that gorgeous home for the best years of your life?
Like many others who come to this time you may be finding yourself in a home to large now that the kids and high traffic has moved on. The once filled rooms are now just storage space and more than you need to heat, clean and maintain. The years ahead are exciting and its time to move.
Don’t let the market stop you from moving on with your life and getting into that home you truly need and fits your needs of today. You very well may be working with less equity then you had last year but you can almost bet next year it will be less.
While the end decision remains yours and we must agree is emotional to say the least; some factor should be considered;
Is Major Work Needed?
You have most likely been in your home for years. At this point take a long hard look at the major items that run the home, roof, siding, mechanicals – do they need replacing or will they soon? Items of such expense should be considered when determining to stay or move on. The cost to stay may be more than you think.
The Maintenance?
Even if the big items are OK every home needs maintenance, how much does yours need? Is it a bi enough house that there is always something to do? Do you want to spend the next years working on a home or is it time for something newer?
Is Your Area Appreciating Or Depreciation?
Have a good Realtor help you establish what is happening in your specific market. If your area shows depreciation you may want to sell sooner than later.
