As a new home buyer there is no doubt your mailbox is about to be inundated with junk mail. At a time when you’re moving, unpacking and getting settled in with the mountains of paperwork you signed it’s hard to know what is real and what is not, scammers are taking full advantage of this.
There is a very common form that is being mailed out all over the country and it looks very official, however, its not! You may get a letter with your name, the PID# of the property you purchased, with a return address that looks like it came from your local governing office that is asking for a small fee to send you the deed to the property.
Your local recorders office does not send mail like this, all the documents you need would have already been given to you at closing. Look at the areas I highlighted in yellow, of course its the small print but it even acknowledges this is not something you need to pay. So many people are falling victim to these scammers. If you ever have questions about something that came in the mail please reach out to your agent or call us here at DMG anytime.
County home recording scam alerts for home buyers are unfortunate but with the right information at your side you can successfully avoid them.
