State law requires that all taxable property be physically inspected and individually appraised once every five years. Appraisers from the Anoka County Assessor’s office have begun work on the 2008 re-evaluation for the 2009 assessment and will be visiting properties up for review between now and the end of the year. For convenience purposes, a map of the area of Blaine to be re-evaluated this year is available online. In addition to the re-evaluation area, appraisers also visit properties with new construction projects. These inspections generally take place during the last months of the year. If the owner is not present at the property when the appraiser first calls, or if it is inconvenient at that time, she/he will leave a tag informing the owner of their visit and requesting that the owner call to make arrangements for an interior inspection. Appraisers carry Anoka County identification; as always, property owners are encouraged to ask for identification before allowing any person to enter their home for any reason. Questions regarding the review process should be directed to the Anoka County Assessor’s Office at (763) 323-5475.
