Minneapolis is the largest city in the state of Minnesota and is the county seat of Hennepin County. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the 2006 population of Minneapolis to be approximately 369,051 people.

Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the river's confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Saint Paul, the state's capital. Known as the Twin Cities, St. Paul and Minneapolis form the sixteenth largest metropolitan area in the United States, with about 3.2 million residents. .

Minneapolis and Minnesota celebrate their sesquicentennials in 2008. The city's celebration coincides with the 150th anniversary of its first town council meeting, which is thought to have been held July 20, 1858.

Minneapolis MN is abundantly rich in water with twenty lakes and wetlands, the Mississippi riverfront, creeks and waterfalls— many of which are connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway.
